ISLAMABAD: At least 12 security personnel were martyred in a terrorist attack on a checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Bannu District, the military’s media wing said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), khawarij attempted to attack a joint checkpost in the Malikhel area of Bannu on November 19. “In an exchange of fire, six terrorists were neutralized,” the statement read.

As the terrorist’s attempt to enter the post was effectively thwarted, they rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall, causing a suicide blast.

The suicide blast led to the collapse of a portion of the perimeter wall and damaged the adjoining infrastructure, the statement mentioned.

Moreover, the statement said that the “suicide attack resulted in the martyrdom of twelve brave sons of the soil, including ten soldiers and two personnel of Frontier Constabulary.”

“Sanitisation operation is being conducted in the area and the perpetrators of this heinous act will be brought to justice.”
