RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has suggested imposing a restriction on the buying and selling of land in the farmlands encircling Rawalpindi straying beyond the suburban areas of the city.

The underlying principle behind this proposal is to shield the crucial green zone (agricultural sector) of the city which is important for the wellbeing of the natural and environmental health.

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Additional Director General Awais Manzoor Tarar has addressed a correspondence to Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi, seeking prompt measures to put a stoppage to the land transfers within the varied regions of the district.

This decision is also part of the wider initiative that blends urban growth with environmental preservation.

” It is not only the beauty and aesthetics of Rawalpindi that shall be appreciated but further the balancing of the city ecologically due to the green belt”, ‘as RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza explained.’

Protecting the various Green-Belt areas and their territories surrounding Rawalpindi district is imperative, as it reduces externalities such as air pollution and provides recreational space for the inhabitants of the region.

On the other hand, the expansion of one finger in the contraction zone, the construction sector, is leading to a heated debate over the shrinking of already limited farmlands and vegetated places.

This has forced the RDA to act in a very responsible manner towards the protection of the city’s resources. Complaints and objections about the ban can be entertained by the Governance Redressal Committee.

The Rawalpindi Development Authority aims to promote urban expansion while protecting the environmental resources of the city effectively for the future.
