KP govt crack down on plastic bags, efforts to combat environmental pollution

KP govt crack down on plastic bags

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection Council has made several key decisions to tackle environmental issues in the province. To start, the council resolved to strictly enforce the ban on polythene bags after three months, marking a significant step towards reducing plastic waste.

Additionally, the council decided to transition all brick kilns to Zigzag technology, offering soft loans to kiln owners to facilitate this shift. This move aims to reduce pollution from traditional brick kilns.

The council also approved plans to declare popular tourist areas, including Naran, Kaghan, and Galiyat, as environmentally sensitive zones. This designation will help protect these areas’ natural beauty and ecosystems.

Furthermore, the province will establish a Climate Change Centre and Authority to coordinate efforts to address climate change. To educate future generations, the council decided to modernize climate change content in school and college curricula.

Lastly, CM Gandapur tasked the  Health Department with submitting a report on hospital waste management within a month, highlighting the need for improved waste disposal practices in healthcare facilities. These decisions demonstrate the council’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
