ISLAMABAD: Users in Pakistan are reporting disruptions with WhatsApp and other media applications, citing issues with downloading audio, video messages, and pictures.
Some users are encountering a message from WhatsApp that reads: “Couldn’t download the document. Try again. If the problem persists, try connecting to Wi-Fi.”
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has downplayed these service issues, suggesting they might be due to a “technical glitch.”
A 2024 World Population Review report indicates that Pakistan has 52.3 million WhatsApp users.
Moreover, in April, internet users experienced significant problems when the fiber optic cable linking Singapore to Pakistan and Europe was damaged in several places near Indonesia, impacting internet access across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
