ISLAMABAD: PTI laments government move to shift Imran Khan out of Adiala Jail as reports of secret plan surface. But inside the fortress-like jail, officials saw frenzy brewing and finally moved to break the suspense.
Adiala Jail has denied rumours that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan will be shifted from the facility, describing the circulating reports as nothing more than “pure speculation”.
Khan remains exactly where he is inside Adiala, surrounded by maximum security, regular medical check-ups and proper food. A recent examination by a five-member PIMS medical team found him in a stable condition, further weakening claims of an early transfer, according to the report.
Authorities insist that no administrative decision has been taken to shift the PTI founder, and have termed the entire narrative “without any merit”.
But the clarification comes hours after a flurry of reports suggested that the federal government was actively considering transferring the detained leader. According to these earlier claims, officials believed that the PTI was “pursuing an agenda to destabilize the country” by using protests and sit-ins as a cover to incite nationwide unrest.
Adding fuel to the political fire, Akhtar Wali, the prime minister’s coordinator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, held a fiery press conference, warning that Pakistan’s political confrontation had reached a point “from which no return seems possible.”
Although he avoided directly naming Imran Khan, Wali strongly hinted that the government was considering proposals to transfer the ‘prisoner’ out of Adiala. He went further by accusing KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi of having a nexus with drug smugglers and claiming that Afridi’s family was involved in drug activities under his “patronage”.
A few weeks ago, KP Chief Minister Afridi himself staged a marathon 16-hour sit-in outside the jail. Earlier, he was briefly detained due to protests by Imran’s sisters – a move that further infuriated PTI supporters.
