ISLAMABAD: Adiala Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum dismissed the claims, saying that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan is enjoying extraordinary privileges inside the jail, far beyond what is usually granted to B-class prisoners.
In a detailed statement on Tuesday, the superintendent said that the PTI founder has been provided access to all B-class facilities, including food of his choice prepared by a designated inmate cook, health services, personal books, daily newspapers, and an exercise bike.
“He has also been allotted a complex of seven cells and an open courtyard for walking,” Anjum added.
The jail official further revealed that the PTI founder has an LED television in his cell and is actively interacting with the outside world, including national and international media.
Citing media interactions with outlets like Fox News, Wall Street Journal, ITV, Reuters, and The Telegraph, Anjum said, “In the last year alone, his statements have made headlines on 45 different occasions.”
Notably, the superintendent revealed that the PTI founder has posted 413 tweets during his imprisonment, most of which contained direct instructions to party workers regarding political mobilization, including the November 26 protests, the Sambrial by-elections, and participation in ongoing negotiations with the government.
He used the platform to issue instructions on constitutional matters like the 26th Amendment. “He remained in touch with the mainstream media during the period of his trial inside the prison,” the jail chief added.
Anjum maintained that the level of access and facilities given to the PTI founder far exceeded that given to any other B-class prisoner. “No other B-class prisoner has been given such comprehensive facilities,” he claimed.
Responding to recent speculation on social media, Anjum dismissed reports of Bani’s deteriorating health or ill-treatment in jail. “There is no truth in these reports. Such stories are being spread for cheap fame and sensationalism,” he said sternly.
“Bani enjoys more privileges than any other prisoner in Adiala Jail, and he is not being treated with any discrimination.”
