LAHORE: After Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, the Orange Line Metro Train system has also welcomed its first-ever woman driver in a historic step towards women’s empowerment.

In a field dominated by men, the inclusion of a woman driver, Nida Saleh, is seen as a positive step towards gender inclusion, and it will pave a new path for women.

Nida Saleh, a graduate of Transportation Engineering, was given 6 months of technical training, after which she officially started performing her duties as a driver of the Orange Line Metro Train.

While talking to the media, she said that initially, my family expressed concern about entering this unconventional field, but seeing my passion and seriousness, they fully supported me.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed happiness over the appointment of the first woman driver in the Orange Line. She said that daughters like Nida Saleh are the pride of all of us.

CM Maryam said that the Punjab government will continue to provide equal opportunities to women and expressed her best wishes for Nida Saleh.

Earlier last week, Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system inducted its first female driver, 37-year-old Ruth Maryam.

Maryam, who recently completed rigorous professional training, told an interviewer: “No profession is beyond women’s reach if pursued with passion and hard work.”

Ruth Maryam described her role as an honor and hopes her achievement will inspire more women to join Pakistan’s transport sector.
