ISLAMABAD: Another Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight attendant has reportedly gone missing in Canada, the 12th such incident in just one year.

The missing crew member, identified as Mohsin Raza, went missing while on vacation in Toronto, adding to the recurring problem of PIA staff not returning to duty after overseas stays. Expressed concern.

Islamabad-based Raza was scheduled to board flight PK 784 from Toronto to Karachi on October 13. However, he failed to report for duty and was found missing from his hotel. Raza was serving as a steward on the Islamabad-Toronto route and was last seen at the hotel before his scheduled flight.

The incident highlights a growing trend within PIA, where flight attendants, especially on international routes, have disappeared after leave. Despite various efforts by the airline to mitigate the problem, including a policy requiring cabin crew members to submit their passports to airline authorities while in Canada, the problem is maintained.

A PIA spokesperson confirmed that an investigation into Raza’s disappearance has been initiated. The airline has dealt with similar cases in the past, raising concerns about its internal protocols and the effectiveness of measures taken to prevent such incidents. The spokesperson added that disciplinary action is being considered.

With 12 crew members missing in a year, PIA is under increasing pressure to deal with these recurring incidents. The airline’s management is reportedly reviewing its policies to strengthen supervision of cabin crew while on international assignments, especially in countries where incidents of crew disappearances have been high.
