ISLAMABAD (ABN News) – Former Speaker and senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser has expressed concern over the absence of opposition leaders in both the Senate and National Assembly, calling it a significant democratic gap. Speaking on ABN News’ program Tajzia, he emphasized that the opposition’s future strategy will be guided by the directives of PTI’s founding leader.

Qaiser reaffirmed his 30-year ideological association with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating that it was based not on positions or personal gains, but on principles and belief. Recalling the 1997 general elections, he said he remained committed to PTI’s vision even after defeat, and continued the struggle in 2002 despite limited public support.

He noted that holding a position in PTI is not a reward but a burden, as the party has faced unprecedented oppression and political victimization. He hailed those who stood by the party between May 9 and February 8 as proud and loyal members. Qaiser also urged the government to offer relief on merit to innocent individuals facing baseless legal cases.

Calling for open trials of all cases against PTI’s founder, he said justice must not only be done but seen to be done. He condemned recent court decisions as acts of political revenge and tyranny, stating that he envisions a Pakistan aligned with Quaid-e-Azam’s vision, where institutions operate within their constitutional boundaries and every citizen receives their rights on merit.

Qaiser stressed the importance of effective communication to convey the PTI founder’s message to the public and demanded the legal right to meet him in prison. He added that the country can only achieve peace and attract investment through constitutional governance, noting that both domestic and international factors are affecting Pakistan’s situation.

Highlighting his commitment to addressing the issues of farmers, laborers, students, and the general public, he condemned the treatment of women and children under the current regime, calling it even more oppressive than the colonial era.

He said true freedom is only possible through the rule of law, and those intoxicated with power will not retreat unless pressured by the public. Qaiser also noted that Shah Mahmood Qureshi could play a constructive role in the party and that his release could serve as a bridge for political dialogue.

He strongly criticized recent property seizure orders, calling them one of the worst injustices in history.
