Balochistan budget session rescheduled for June 20

QUETTA: The session summoned on June 17 to present the Balochistan budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 will be convened on June 20 now.

As per sources privy to the matter, the province will have a deficit budget of over Rs 90 billion and the provincial government is likely to announce 7,000 new job slots.

It was also disclosed that a raised budget will be allocated for education, health, law and order, and water irrigation. While the sources in the finance department revealed that the non-development expenditure is likely to reach Rs240 billion.

A 100 billion will be allocated for education, 70 billion for the communication department and 60 billion for the health sector.

However, salaries of government employees will be increased as per the announcement made by the federation. Balochistan will get Rs 47.74 billion more from the federal government for the next financial year as compared to the current financial year, sources said.

Earlier, the Balochistan budget was to be presented in Assembly Hall on June 17. Whereas general discussion on a financial plan was scheduled on June 20.

Notably, Punjab’s budget was finally unveiled by Finance Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari yesterday at ‘Aiwane-e-Iqbal’, not at the constitutional and traditional venue, which is the Punjab Assembly building, as the deadlock between the treasury and opposition benches had refused to die when Speaker Pervaiz Ilahi did not allow the provincial government to present the budget in the House and demanded an apology from IG Police over cases lodged against the PTI and PML-Q.
