QUETTA: A comprehensive seven-day anti-polio campaign is set to kick off in Balochistan on September 9, targeting 2.65 million children across the province.

The initiative, led by the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Balochistan, aims to combat the recent re-emergence of polio in the region.

Following a two-and-a-half-year period, 12 polio cases have been reported in eight districts, including Quetta, Chaman, and Dera Bugti, prompting health authorities to sound the alarm.

Environmental samples have confirmed the presence of the virus in various areas, fueling concerns of further spread if left unchecked.

To combat this, over 11,000 teams have been mobilized to ensure widespread vaccination coverage. The EOC has urged parents to prioritize their children’s health, warning that neglecting vaccination could have devastating consequences. Tragically, three children have already succumbed to the disease this year.

In addition to polio vaccinations, the EOC stressed the importance of completing immunization courses to protect against other deadly diseases like measles and pneumonia.

Security measures will be in place to ensure the safety of polio workers and smooth campaign operations. The campaign’s success is crucial in reducing the spread of polio and safeguarding the health of Balochistan’s children.
