Balochistan Nationalist Army commander among 70 rebels lay down arms

Minister Achakzai affirmed Pakistan’s clear policy, stating that those choosing to return would be welcomed.

QUETTA: In a significant development, the Balochistan Nationalist Army (BNA) witnessed a major shift as one of its commanders, Sarfaraz Bangalzai, along with 70 fighters, voluntarily surrendered, marking a positive turn in the ongoing efforts by Pakistani security forces against militancy in the region.

Balochistan Caretaker Information Minister Jan Achakzai, in a press conference alongside Home Minister Mir Zubair Jamali, announced this crucial development. Minister Achakzai emphasized that the BNA, acting at the behest of India, had taken a toll on the province’s stability by causing bloodshed among its own people.

“BNA is spilling the blood of their brothers at the behest of India,” stated Minister Achakzai, highlighting the external forces attempting to destabilize Balochistan. He emphasized that Balochistan has been a primary target of India’s anti-Pakistan efforts, recognizing the province’s pivotal role in Pakistan’s progress.

Sarfaraz Bangalzai, who assumed leadership after the arrest of Gulzar Imam Shanbay, expressed his realization of the enemy’s conspiracy and the importance of unity. He urged parents to educate their children, steering them away from negativity.

The ex-BNA leader unveiled alarming details, stating that banned militant outfits were using women in their evil plans. He revealed that the funding for these outfits originates from India, with drug peddling and kidnapping forming part of the conspiracy.

Bangalzai, addressing the media, disclosed that 70 BNA fighters had joined him in surrendering, with many others expressing the desire to renounce militancy. He called upon the Pakistani state to formulate a policy that welcomes those willing to give up separatist efforts.

This development comes amidst a surge in militancy in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with the report highlighting the use of modern weapons and military equipment left behind by the US forces after their Afghanistan pullout in 2021.
