KARACHI: The Nashonuma (Growth/Nurturing) Programme has been initiated under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) across the country.
This programme is organized by the World Food Programme (WFP) in collaboration with BISP, UNICEF, and WHO
This initiative aims to prevent stunting in children under two, improve maternal nutrition, and reduce anaemia and micronutrient deficiencies.
There is a persistent child nutrition crisis in Pakistan, as evidenced by the high rates of malnutrition (40.2% stunting, 28.9% underweight, and 17.7% wasting).
Pakistan has the second-highest burden of malnutrition in the region due to these levels.
Eligible women can register at their nearest Nashonuma Centre, located at the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) or District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospitals.
Please bring the following documents at the time of registration:
Each boy under two years old and every pregnant or lactating woman (PLW) would get Rs2,500 every three months.
Every girl under two years old would get Rs 3,000 every three months, which includes Rs 500 for transportation.
In exchange, women are required to eat specialized nutritious food (SNF), take their children for regular health checkups and vaccinations, and attend frequent maternal health checks and awareness workshops throughout pregnancy.
This cash assistance is in addition to the regular BISP Kafalat payment.
