ISLAMABAD: Internet users across the country may experience disruption due to submarine cable cuts in Saudi waters near Jeddah, according to Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).
“We would like to inform that submarine cable cuts have occurred in Saudi waters near Jeddah, impacting partial bandwidth capacity on SMW4 and IMEWE systems,” said the internet provider company in a post shared on their social handle.
“As a result, internet users in Pakistan may experience some service degradation during peak hours.
Our international partners are working on a priority to resolve the issue, while our local teams are actively arranging alternative bandwidth to minimize the impact,” the post read.
“We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this time,” it added.
Outage reports spiked on Saturday morning, according to data from Down Detector, which showed disruptions building up overnight before a surge in complaints by 9am.
At least 16 reports of outage were seen on the graph at 10:09 am.
Earlier in August 2025, the PTCL services were disrupted in some parts of the country.
According to details released on Tuesday, there was a technical fault in PTCL’s fiber optics. A PTCL spokesperson said that staff were working to resolve the issue.
The spokesperson said that PTCL will soon be fully restored across the country.
