Black box of KP govt’s crashed helicopter recovered

BAJOUR: The investigators on Sunday retrieved the black box, the cockpit voice recorder, of the KP government’s MI-17 helicopter from the crash site in Mohmand.

The MI-17 helicopter crashed on August 15, 2025, when it was carrying relief material to flood-stricken residents in the Salarzai area of Bajaur, martyring all five crew members.

Teams that came from Karachi recovered the black box with assistance from the local police, which was located around 100 meters from the accident spot, officials said. Police then transferred it to the concerned authorities for further testing.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued the latest figures of loss of life and property due to recent rains and flash floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

As per the PDMA, 313 lives were lost and 156 people were injured in different incidents. Among the victims are 263 males, 29 females, and 21 children, and among the injured are 123 males, 23 females, and 10 children.

The report states that 159 homes were affected, with 97 being partially destroyed and 62 being destroyed.
