Body of ex-army officer recovered, search continues for his daughter swept away in DHA Islamabad flash flood

RAWALPINDI: The Body of one of the two people who were swept away into a drain in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase 5, Islamabad, has been recovered, rescue officials said.

According to the rescue official, the body of Colonel (retd) Ishaq Qazi has been found near the Soan River bridge, while the search operation for his 25-year-old daughter is underway.

The police said that both father and daughter were in a grey car when they were swept away by the rainwater drain on Tuesday morning, and rescue efforts have been underway since the incident.

Eyewitnesses said the ex-army officer attempted to drive across the overflowing drain but was unable to make it across and submerged into the drain.

District Emergency Officer Sibghatullah said rescue boats and other necessary equipment have been deployed at the Soan River and other vulnerable points across the city. Special emergency teams are on alert to respond to flash flood incidents.
