ISLAMABAD: Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, broke down in tears during a recent court appearance, expressing her frustration over the ongoing cases against her and her husband.

The former first lady was present for a bail hearing related to these cases, which have been ongoing for nine months. She alleged that both she and Imran Khan have been unfairly convicted across Pakistan, criticizing the legal process for wasting time.

The couple’s legal troubles began with the Iddat case, where they were acquitted on July 13, 2024, only to be arrested hours later in a fresh National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference related to Toshakhana.

In February, they were sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs500,000 each after a trial court deemed their marriage fraudulent.

In a recent development, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) challenged Bushra Bibi’s bail in the Toshakhana-II case in the Supreme Court, claiming it violates Supreme Court guidelines.

The FIA also alleged Bushra Bibi’s involvement in the case alongside Imran Khan.  However, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had previously granted Bushra Bibi bail against Rs1 million surety bonds, ordering her immediate release.

Bushra Bibi’s emotional outburst in court highlighted her exhaustion from the prolonged legal battles. She stated she wouldn’t return to court, believing justice was unattainable, and was prepared to go to jail with her belongings already packed.
