OKARA: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz distributed ‘Flood Cards‘ in Okara on Monday, launching a full-fledged rehabilitation program of the provincial government.
Addressing a flood relief card distribution ceremony in Depalpur, Maryam Nawaz stated that “Nawaz Sharif’s daughter has come to fulfil her promise.”
She added that the affected families are being provided their due share, although she feels they should get even more.
Maryam Nawaz termed the recent floods as the worst in Punjab’s history, and she said rehabilitation has now officially commenced. “I will not rest until the last affected person gets home,” she claimed.
The chief minister said that the funds of Punjab’s government belong to the people and will be used solely for their welfare.
This is not charity but a repayment of the debt owed to the people of Punjab,” said Maryam Nawaz, guaranteeing that payments will be made openly with zero tolerance for corruption.
The chief minister also said that there will be no discrimination between cities or people and that “no one can exploit the people of Punjab” under her leadership.
Maryam Nawaz added that 70% of the survey work on flood damage has been done, and compensation has already been started, even though the process is yet to be completed. She also announced that approximately 72 complaint camps have been established for those whose names were not included in the relief lists.
Every family affected by the floods will be compensated with cheques and ATM cards — Rs50,000 will be given to them immediately, and the rest can be withdrawn from ATMs. Up to now, more than 71,000 bank accounts have been opened for flood-hit families of Punjab.
