MIAN CHANNU: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday visited Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem’s residence in his hometown to present rewards acknowledging his record-breaking achievement in the recently held Paris Olympics.
CM Maryam Nawaz reached his village 101/15.L in Khanewal district on the helicopter. During her visit, she met gold medalist Arshad and his family and praised him for achieving a remarkable feat. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz hugged and congratulated Arshad Nadeem’s mother Razia Parveen.
To acknowledge javelin ace Arshad Nadeem’s Olympic achievement, the Punjab CM presented him with a cheque of Rs100 million and a brand new Honda Civic car as a gift.
Upon special instruction of Maryam Nawaz, the car will have a number plate “PAK 92.97” to commemorate 27-year-old Nadeem’s monstrous javelin throw of 92.97m at the Paris Olympics which clinched him Pakistan’s first-ever individual gold medal.
Moreover, she also praised Arshad Nadeem’s coach Salman Iqbal Butt and gave him a cheque of Rs5 Million. Arshad Nadeem brought unprecedented happiness to the nation, she said.
Earlier, CM Punjab also promised to build the roads leading to the gold medalist’s village and a hospital, as well as to establish a university in Mian Channu. The Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) in Mian Channu has also been named after Olympian Arshad Nadeem.
On August 8, Arshad Nadeem made the country proud by securing the country’s first-ever medal in 32 years and a gold medal in 40 years. He also etched his name in history books by breaking the previous Olympic record of 90.57m set by Norwegian Andreas Thorkildsen in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
