LAHORE: The Punjab government has unveiled a plan to provide free solar systems to 50,000 households in the province, here on Sunday.
As per the details, the initiative, which aims to reduce the cost of electricity for low-consumption households, is fully funded by the provincial government at an estimated cost of Rs 10 billion.
Under the scheme, households consuming up to 100 units of electricity per month will be eligible for free solar system. The government will cover all costs, including the cost of the solar system and its installation.
To ensure transparency and fairness, households involved in electricity theft, meter tampering, or any other fraudulent activities will be disqualified from participating in the program.
Eligible households can register for this initiative by sending their bill reference number and identity card number via SMS to 8800.
The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will then verify the data of the eligible users and provide it to the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) for further verification.
After the verification process is completed, the final list of eligible households will be sent to the district administration for implementation.
Additionally, the Department of Energy has approved the establishment of a dedicated Project Management Unit to oversee the successful implementation of the initiative.
