Sindh introduces mobile registration of births, deaths, marriages, divorces
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has issued a warning of an enormous flood surge, with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) predicting a flow of 1.1 million cubic feet per second (cusecs). He announced that the province needs to be ready for a “super flood.”
Addressing the press in Kashmore, he laid stress on the emergency need to protect human lives and cattle. He made the point that if the water level touched 900,000 or 1 million cusecs, low-lying (‘kachcha’) areas would be engulfed. All this vital information has already been communicated to district administrations.
The CM directed district officials to closely coordinate with NDMA and informed that Army troops are awaiting deployment in support. He said 192 NDMA rescue boats stand ready to help in evacuation.
He emphasized that saving lives, livestock, and key infrastructure like barrages and embankments needs to be the priority number one. If everything goes well, the province can defeat the super flood.
He said he hoped that the water levels would start receding within 48 hours, from which point on, efforts will start for the return of people to their homes. For those who lose homes in ‘kachcha’ settlements, homes will be offered under Chairman Bilawal’s instruction.
The prime minister also promised that in case crops are affected, the government would compensate. He requested the people to be patient, assuring them that the government is with them in this situation.
