ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court on Sunday approved the 8-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in a new corruption case.

The remand was granted a day after the couple’s arrest following their acquittal in the Iddat case.

NAB Deputy Director Mohsin Haroonhad confirmed that Imran and Bushra Bibi have been detained in connection with the Toshakhana case. “They have been arrested in a new Toshakhana case,” he said.

Earlier, a District and Sessions Court in Islamabad had accepted the appeals filed against Imran and his wife’s conviction in the Iddat case, removing the last legal hurdle that Pt. IK was keeping the founder in jail.

Imran’s sentences were suspended in the two Toshakhana cases, and the Islamabad High Court (IHC) acquitted him in the cipher case. Furthermore, various courts have acquitted him in several other cases filed against him since the events of 9 May 2023, when his first arrest sparked nationwide riots, resulting in his and his A state crackdown on K’s party began.

In May, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted Imran Khan’s bail plea in the £190 million corruption case, saying investigations had been completed and his “continued imprisonment” would serve no purpose.

However, on Tuesday, the Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court rejected Imran’s pre-arrest bail pleas in three cases related to the May 9 riots.

The couple was convicted in the Iddat case on February 3, a few days before the general elections. The complaint was filed by Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband Khawar Fareed Maneka, alleging that they were married during the former first lady’s Eid.
