Crackdown on TLP: Multiple offices, mosques sealed across Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The authorities in Islamabad on Thursday launched a major crackdown on the offices, mosques, and madrasas affiliated with Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) days after the recent wave of violent protests orchestrated by the religious party.

The development came after the Punjab government decided to recommend federal government impose a ban on the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

Several reports circulating on social media alleged that the Markaz TLP, also a Rahmatul-lil-Alameen mosque, has been sealed in Lahore.

According to the details, the Islamabad district administration has sealed multiple sites in different areas of the federal capital.

Sources said that the action was carried out on the reports of security agencies and orders of the district administration, as part of a broader effort to maintain law and order and prevent potential unrest.

The administration has sealed TLP’s central office located on Murree Road, Uthal Chowk, Rural Area, while the TLP office in Medina Town, Simly Dam Road, Barakahu has also been shut down.

Similarly, several mosques and madrassas linked to the group have been closed.

It includes Jamia Masjid and Madrasa Anwar-e-Madina, Barakahu, Mumtaz Hussain Qadri Masjid Athal, and Jamia Masjid, Satra Mile on Murree Road.

At the Union Council level, the TLP office in Shahpur, Simly Dam Road, Barakahu, and the office in UC 14 have been closed. Additionally, the mosque and madrasa at Seri Chowk, Phulgran, have also been sealed.

Sources confirmed that the operations were initiated on the directives of the federal government to curb any activity that could provoke unrest or disturb public peace.

The district administration has directed law enforcement and intelligence agencies to maintain strict surveillance of these sites to ensure stability and prevent any regrouping attempts.
