ISLAMABAD: Security concerns have intensified in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad amid announced protests and a long march by religious groups. As a result, it remains unclear whether educational institutions will open or remain closed on Monday, October 13.
Following the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) long march declaration, authorities moved to preempt risks by closing several schools earlier than usual. Private school associations in affected areas also announced holidays.
In both Islamabad and Rawalpindi, multiple major routes — including entry points to the Red Zone — have been blocked with containers. The Faizabad Interchange, Zero Point, and segments of the expressway are partially closed. Motorway M-2, for traffic traveling from Lahore to Islamabad, is also shut.
Other areas such as Rawal Dam Chowk, NADRA Chowk, Serena Chowk, and Marriott Chowk have been cordoned off. Meanwhile, the Islamabad-Rawalpindi Metro Bus service is suspended. In Lahore, the Orange Line train service has been halted between Ali Town and Dera Gujran.
In Punjab, Section 144 has been imposed across the province, prohibiting public gatherings and nonessential movement. Transport terminals are closed, and railway authorities have issued alert announcements for passengers.
Officials say the government will review the situation over Saturday and Sunday. If security does not improve, schools may stay closed on Monday. A final decision is expected by Sunday evening.
