ISLAMABAD: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has successfully foiled a major terror plot and arrested two highly dangerous terrorists linked to the attack on I-9 police station.

The operation was conducted near Mughal Market, Rawalpindi, averting a possible large-scale attack in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

According to a CTD spokesperson, the arrested militants have been identified as Hamza and Roman, they belonged to ‘Fitna-ul-Khawarij’ and were planning attacks on sensitive locations in the twin cities. The operation was based on intelligence, which led to their immediate arrest.

The terrorists were allegedly in touch with a key Khawarij commander in Afghanistan and had already scouted their desired targets.

During the arrest, security forces seized hand grenades, a large quantity of explosives, detonators, safety fuses, wires and other sabotage equipment.

A case has been registered against the militants, and further investigation is underway. During the initial investigation, the accused confessed to having attacked the I-9 police station with a hand grenade a few months ago.

CTD officials have reiterated their commitment to eradicate terrorism and said that operations against such elements will continue to ensure public safety.
