LAHORE: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested 10 terrorists during operations in different cities of Punjab, here on Saturday.
According to a CTD spokesperson, 163 Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) were conducted across Punjab in response to terrorist threats. The operations were carried out in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Mianwali, Sargodha, and Faisalabad, resulting in the arrest of 10 terrorists.
Three members of the militant group Fitna-ul-Khawarij were detained in Rawalpindi, while one terrorist was arrested from Lahore. Authorities recovered explosives, an IED bomb, 11 safety fuses, 22 feet of wire, pamphlets, and cash from the suspects.
The arrested persons have been identified as Hafiz Muhammad Rafiq, Akbar, Zainullah, Owais Ahmed, Ehsan, Sajjad, Luqman, and Nadeem.
CTD officials said that the terrorists were planning attacks to spread fear among the public. This week, 2,893 combing operations were conducted, resulting in the questioning of 111,849 people and the arrest of 736 suspects.
The CTD stressed its resolve to eradicate terrorism and ensure a safe Punjab.
In a separate development, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested two suspected terrorists from near Al-Munzir area of Hyderabad.
According to CTD officials, the suspects were planning to target Rangers vehicles in the area.
During the operation, two hand grenades and other explosives were recovered from the possession of the suspects.
The CTD in-charge said that the terrorists have been identified as Taj Muhammad and Parel.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to uncover more details about the plans and affiliations of the suspects.
