LAHORE: Customs officials on Friday thwarted a smuggling bid at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore, seizing dozens of iPhones and arresting an individual.

According to the official, a raid was conducted on a tip to apprehend an individual named Umar Farooq, who arrived from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Customs spokesperson said that iPhones worth Rs11.5 million were seized during the raid.

Earlier in October, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) staffer, identified as Faisal Majeed, was caught smuggling 16 expensive cell phones from Canada when he arrived at Islamabad airport on flight PK-782.

Customs officials found the phones wrapped around his body during a routine check. As a result, Majeed received a show-cause notice, requiring him to respond within three days.

In another raid in October, customs officials recovered valuable mobile phones worth millions of rupees from PIA air hostesses and two passengers at Lahore airport.

Customs officials have revealed that PIA air hostess Nadia Batool tried to smuggle 30 iPhones worth over Rs 11.2 million, hidden in various parts of her body and luggage.

Additionally, mobile phones worth Rs 55 lakh were recovered hidden in the luggage of passenger Muhammad Arshad and his wife Fariha Amin.
