LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority has given the operators of Reverse Osmosis water filtration plants a deadline of December 15 for the implementation of the newly issued Standard Operating Procedures. The notices went out after an awareness session organized by the PFA reviewed the updated rules.

PFA trainers, along with the deputy director of operations, briefed the plant operators about the SOPs. The guidelines cover hygiene standards, labeling rules, installation steps for new plants, cleaning procedures for plants and water tanks, and filter-replacement protocols.

The SOPs call for uploading details of filter replacements and laboratory reports on the FBO Portal monthly, besides maintaining proper maintenance records. The capacity-building directive in the run-up to the deadline came from the PFA Director General Asim Javed.

The authority warned of legal action under the relevant food-safety regulations should this deadline of December 15 not be met. Until then, plant owners must demonstrate full compliance with the new procedures.
