LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Dr Yasmin Rashid has been shifted to the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital after her health worsened at Kot Lakhpat Jail on Monday night.

Yasmin Rashid’s lawyer said that the authorities were instructed by the court to ensure that she got timely medical attention. Rashid’s cancer-related tests are being conducted, and her condition will be clear after the results, her lawyer added.

Dr Yasmin Rashid’s lawyer Mudassar added that her condition deteriorated due to unnecessary delay in the treatment.

Hospital administration said that Punjab’s former health minister will undergo various tests. “She also has trouble breathing. Her further medical check-up will take place at a government hospital,” the sources privy to the development said.

Earlier on May 22, Dr. Yasmin Rashid was shifted to Services Hospital after falling ill in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore. She was shifted to Services Hospital from Kot Lakhpat Jail due to high blood pressure and diarrhea.

On arrival at Services Hospital, Dr. Rashid, a cancer survivor, underwent several medical tests after she developed severe abdominal pain.

Initially detained on May 12 under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, she was later arrested again for her alleged role in the May 9 unrest.
