ISLAMABAD: Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology, announced the minimum rates of Zakat al-Fitr and Fidya for 2025, setting the basic amount at Rs. 220 per person.
Fitrana (Zakat al-Fitr) is an obligatory charity given before Eid al-Fitr, while Fidya is compensation for missed fasts.
The Fitrana amount varies based on different commodities:
For Fidya (compensation for 30 missed fasts):
Dr. Naeemi urged the wealthy to pay Zakat al-Fitr according to their financial capacity to better help the needy. He also reminded that those who intentionally break the fast should either fast for 60 consecutive days or feed 60 poor people.
People using subsidized government flour can pay a reduced Zakat al-Fitr of Rs. 60. Those living outside Punjab should calculate Zakat al-Fitr based on the prices of local commodities.
