RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has launched its new electric bus service in Rawalpindi, marking another step in expanding the sustainable transport option within the province. The service has been inaugurated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday.

All electric buses come with air-conditioned coaches, free Wi-Fi, charging sockets, wheelchair access, and a separate compartment for women. The fare has been priced at Rs.20, while women, senior citizens, and children with special needs will commute for free.

Officials explained the initiative is part of a broader development plan for Rawalpindi, which includes signal-free corridors, new flyovers, road upgrades, and major investments in public infrastructure. The government has allocated substantial funding for road construction and improvements to support the new transport network.

The chief minister further reiterated the improvement in healthcare, education, and social welfare that is under way. New hospitals and schools are being built, with old facilities being upgraded to accommodate a growing population.

She pointed out that crime in Punjab has decreased by 70 percent and the government is continuing its efforts to strengthen public safety.
