ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has issued an important advisory for electricity consumers, as hackers are active to scam the public under the guise of a government subsidy scheme.
According to a Power Division spokesperson, some criminal elements are trying to obtain personal information of consumers under the guise of the QR code on the electricity bill.
Consumers are asked to click on a special link, where they are asked to enter different information in four steps.
According to the spokesperson, after entering the information, consumers are also asked to enter a 6-digit code on the same link, which is a very dangerous process.
The Power Division says that some elements want to use the QR code to achieve nefarious purposes.
The spokesperson clarified that information related to electricity bills cannot be entered on any unrelated platform, digital form, or paper. This method of entering information is wrong and illegal.
According to the Power Division, law enforcement agencies have been informed about the criminal elements so that action can be taken against them.
The spokesperson has directed electricity consumers not to enter their information on any digital link, QR code or paper form in the name of subsidy, and to avoid clicking on any suspicious link.
The Power Division says that consumers should keep their personal information safe and immediately report any suspicious activity to the relevant agencies to avoid possible fraud or data theft.
