ISLAMABAD: Another bad news has come to light for electricity consumers across the country, as a request to increase electricity price by 82 paise per unit has been submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra).
According to Nepra, this request has been filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) in the context of fuel price adjustment for May 2026.
Nepra officials say that the hearing on the request will be held on June 30, during which a final decision will be taken on whether to increase or maintain the price of electricity after conducting a technical and financial review.
According to sources, if the request is approved, electricity consumers will have an additional financial burden of about Rs 12 billion.
CPPA has taken the stand in its position that the average fuel cost for electricity generation during May was Rs 9.25 per unit, due to which the request for fuel price adjustment has been submitted.
It should be noted that if approved by NEPRA, additional charges will be collected from consumers in future electricity bills.
