ISLAMABAD: Electricity prices are likely to decrease by Rs 1.75 per unit for consumers across the country.
Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has applied for a quarterly adjustment.
The application was filed for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2024-25. If approved, consumers will get a relief of more than Rs 53 billion 39 crore.
The quarterly adjustment will also apply to government-owned discos, including K-Electric.
NEPRA will hear CPPA’s application on August 4. If the adjustment is approved for September, October, and November, the relief may increase further. Relief of up to Rs 2.10 per unit will be available for September, October, and November.
NEPRA will take a final decision on prices after hearing the application.
The proposal suggests a reduction in electricity prices due to lower generation costs observed in June.
As per the request, over 13.31 billion units of electricity were generated during June, with the average cost of generation recorded at Rs 7.68 per unit.
