ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a 28-paise per unit increase in electricity prices for February bills, which follows the December fuel price adjustment.

The price increase will affect all customers throughout the country, including K-Electric customers, but it does not apply to lifeline users and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested a larger increase of 48 paisa per unit, but NEPRA reduced the adjustment after a detailed review.

The official notification states that the 28-paise increase will start appearing in monthly electricity bills from February onward. NEPRA stated that its decision creates an equal system that enables power companies to recover their growing fuel expenses while safeguarding needy customers.

The price increase will not affect lifeline electricity users who belong to low-income households, and it will also protect EV charging infrastructure from the upcoming price hike.

The regulatory authority showed that NEPRA uses fuel price adjustment as an element of its monthly tariff evaluation process, which works to ensure transparent operations and stable financial conditions in the electricity industry.
