ISLAMABAD: During the month of Ramadan, the federal government will revise the office timings for its employees to provide them with much-needed relief.

As per the yearly practice, it is expected that the working hours at the government offices will be reduced by two to three hours for the holy month, which is expected to start on March 2, 2025.

The government will likely reduce the office timings to 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for offices open five days a week while offices open six days a week would observe timing from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

On Friday, the working hours of federal government offices are expected to be fixed from 9:00 am to 12.30 pm.

The establishment division will issue the notification stating office timings a week before the commencement of the holy month.

Ramadan 2025 moon sighting

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet in Peshawar on February 28, 2025, for the sighting of the Ramadan moon, a notification from the Ministry of Religious Affairs said.

The committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the session, which will commence after the Asr prayer.

Furthermore, the notification stated that different zonal committees will hold separate meetings in their respective domains — to receive and assess moon sighting reports of Ramadan 1446 Hijri.

The final decision on moon sighting will come from the central body and the religious affairs ministry will oversee the arrangements.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department shared a prediction regarding the moon sighting.

According to the Met Office, the moon will be sighted on February 28 at 5:45 PM, which will mark the beginning of the Islamic month of Ramadan. The sighting of the new moon on March 1 is expected to confirm the start of the holy month.

Globally, media outlets have also suggested that the Ramadan moon is likely to be sighted on February 28 in countries like the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf countries, with March 1 being the starting point for Ramadan in these regions.

According to astronomical parameters, the Met Office said there is “No Chance of sighting the new moon of Ramzan 1446 AH on the evening of 28-02-2025 i.e. on 29th Shaban 1446”.
