DARRA ADAM KHEL/ISLAMABAD: Minister for Science and Technology Senator Syed Shibli Faraz on Sunday escaped a gun attack unharmed as he was on his way from his ancestral town of Kohat to Peshawar city. Armed assailants fired shots at his car, shattering the windows.

Shibli Faraz told the media that he is safe but his driver and guard have been injured and is being transported to Peshawar for medical attention.

As per details, Shibli Faraz was traveling from Kohat to Peshawar after casting his vote in the local government elections.

The DIG Kohat said people protesting against ongoing local body elections in the province pelted stones at the minister’s car while he was on his way to Kohat.

He added that a security guard and drive of the federal minister had sustained injuries in the attack while Shibli remained unhurt.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry tweeted moments after the news broke, saying that Faraz had been attacked by gunmen at Darra Adam Khel. “Thankfully, he remained safe but unfortunately the driver is seriously injured and has been transported to the hospital. “We strongly condemn this incident,” he wrote.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed also condemned the attack and summoned a report on the incident from the KP’s police chief and Chief Secretary. Sheikh Rashid has also prayed for the early recovery of injured driver and guard of Shibli Faraz.
