DIAMER: Tensions escalated a day before the general elections in GBA-17 Daril constituency of Gilgit-Baltistan, when unknown persons opened fire on the vehicle of supporters of PML-N nominated candidate Dr. Muhammad Zaman.
After the incident, a wave of concern spread in the area, while there was a strong reaction in political circles.
According to reports, the firing incident took place in Dodshal area of Daril. PML-N candidate Dr. Muhammad Zaman confirmed the incident and said that fortunately no one was injured in the firing, but this incident is an attempt to affect the electoral atmosphere.
Dr. Muhammad Zaman strongly condemned the attack, terming it open terrorism and said that he wanted peaceful, transparent and free elections in the area.
He alleged that Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Muhammad Naseem was behind the firing incident, however, no official confirmation has been received in this regard yet.
He demanded that the administration and law enforcement agencies conduct an immediate, impartial and transparent investigation into the incident and punish the responsible elements according to the law.
On the other hand, Section 144 has been imposed by District Magistrate Lieutenant (retd) Muhammad Owais to maintain law and order in Diamer district.
