Rawalpindi: Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Engineer Aamir Khattak announced that the Rawalpindi Ring Road construction project will be completed by December. This deadline was set by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz.
According to Engineer Khattak, the Annual Development Program (ADP) consists of 315 schemes in Rawalpindi district, of which 226 are currently ongoing and 89 are new. Dadocha Dam and Rawalpindi Ring Road are two of the major ongoing projects for the development of the city.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road project has three phases. The 38.3 km stretch from Banth to Thalian is the first phase, the second phase connects the route to the motorway, and the third phase encompasses the eastern loop. Starting from September 2023, the initial phase will be completed by December 2024. The aim is to encourage industrial development while reducing transport congestion.
Apart from this, work has been started on Dadocha Dam. Upon completion, Rawalpindi will have access to 35 million gallons of clean drinking water per day. A revised project proposal has been submitted, and land acquisition for the dam has been completed.
Other notable developments in Rawalpindi include Lai Motorway, Kutchery Chowk, Safe City Project, several water supply initiatives and renovation of Holy Family and Benazir Bhutto Hospitals.
A mobile health service project ‘Vehicle on Wheels’ has been launched. Additionally, a 150-bed rehabilitation center at Wah General Hospital, upgrading of Peer Vidhai bus stand, a new abattoir, and construction of freelance IT and gymnasiums in all districts are other notable initiatives.
In education, efforts are being made to improve facilities by focusing on the flagship schemes of the education department. Divisional Public Schools have been established in all the districts. Government Islamia Higher Secondary School No. 1 on Murree Road has started special classes for transgender students, in which 63 students have been enrolled so far. Additionally, 57 small dams have been completed and are functioning in Rawalpindi Division.
