First solar eclipse of 2025 to take place today

ISLAMABAD: The first partial solar eclipse of this year will take place today (Saturday) as skywatchers gather across the world to witness the rare celestial event.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said, “The solar eclipse will be visible from Europe, North in Asia, North/West Africa, much of North America, North in South America, Atlantic and Arctic.”

However, it will not be possible to see the celestial event in Pakistan and India.

According to the Met Office, the solar eclipse will begin at 1:51 pm. The partial solar eclipse will peak at 3:47 pm, as per the Met Office.

The solar eclipse will end at 5:44 pm (PST).

In addition to that, the second solar eclipse of 2025 will occur on the night between September 21 and 22.

This celestial spectacular will be visible from the South in Australia, the Pacific, the Atlantic, and Antarctica but will not be visible in Pakistan. The second eclipse will also be partial.

Earlier this month, the first total lunar eclipse of the year took place and it was visible from Europe, much of Asia, much of Australia, much of Africa, North America, South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic and Antarctica.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth, blocking some or all of the Sun’s light.

The experts suggest taking the proper precautions to view this celestial event safely, as looking directly with the naked eye can cause eye damage, including blindness even during a partial eclipse.
