QUETTA: A devastating flood in the Bolan area has severely damaged a critical 18-inch gas pipeline, cutting off supply to several major cities in Balochistan, including Quetta.

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) confirmed that the pipeline breach has halted gas supply to Quetta, Mastung, Kalat, Kolpur Machh, Pishin, and surrounding areas.

Repairs are pending due to security concerns in the region, awaiting clearance before commencement. This incident follows a recent National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) report highlighting the catastrophic impact of recent rains across Pakistan.

Damage caused by recent rain

  • 2,293 properties destroyed or damaged (734 completely, 1,559 partially)
  • 44 kilometers of roads affected
  • 30 bridges damaged or destroyed

The recent extreme weather in Pakistan has caused severe damage to properties and buildings, and water gathered on the roads disrupting the traffic flow and causing several accidents. According to the official report heavy rainfall has disrupted daily life activities in Pakistan also causing several casualties.

In response, the NDMA has urged all relevant departments to take proactive measures to mitigate the effects of the extreme weather and manage expected flooding.
