QUETTA: Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Balochistan has declared 10 districts of Balochistan province calamity-hit after heavy rainfall and floods.
The districts include Qalat, Ziarat, Sohbatpur, Lasbela, Awaran, Kachi, Jaffarabad, Usta Muhammad, Loralai, and Chagai, PDMA said on Friday.
According to the PDMA, the administrations of the aforementioned districts have been directed to take steps to provide relief to the people.
Earlier, PDMA Balochistan reported that at least 29 people lost their lives and 15 injured across Balochistan in torrential rains since July 1.
Furthermore, rains caused havoc in the province causing widespread damage to infrastructure and crops. The rain has caused damage to several houses, with 858 completely destroyed and 13896 partially damaged, the PDMA added.
In addition, monsoon rains have also caused significant damage to crops, with 58,799 acres of crops and 41 kilometers of roads affected. “Seven bridges have been damaged, while 373 animals have died due to the heavy rains.”
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more widespread rain-windstorms in Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir on Friday (August 30).
