Flood-hit power infrastructure sees rapid restoration across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Power Division has released its report on the restoration of electricity in flood-affected areas across Pakistan as of August 31.

As per the report, widespread damage to the power infrastructure has been recorded in several regions, but restoration efforts are actively underway.

In the PESCO region, which includes Swat, Buner, Shangla, Swabi, and Dera Ismail Khan, a total of 12 grid stations and 91 feeders were affected. Of these, 84 feeders have been fully restored and seven partially. Restoration work in Swabi and Dera Ismail Khan has been completed, while the remaining areas—Swat, Buner, and Shangla—are expected to see full recovery within the next two to seven days.

In GEPCO areas, 10 grid stations and 87 feeders were impacted. So far, 73 feeders have been fully restored and 13 partially. Meanwhile, in the LESCO region, including Lahore, Okara, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Nankana Sahib, 58 feeders have been partially restored. Full restoration in these districts is expected between August 31 and September 5.

FESCO, covering areas like Toba Tek Singh, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Jhang, Sargodha, Mianwali, and D.I. Khan, reported 24 grid stations and 68 feeders affected, most of which have been temporarily restored. In the MEPCO region, 100 feeders were affected by flooding. Restoration in these areas will begin as soon as floodwaters recede.

TESCO reported 10 damaged feeders in North Waziristan and Khyber. Two have been temporarily restored, while full restoration is expected by September 5. In HAZECO’s Mansehra area, two of the three damaged feeders have been fully restored.

Overall, out of 46 affected grid stations and 417 feeders, 159 feeders have been fully restored and 248 have been temporarily brought back online. The Power Division emphasized that complete restoration of electricity in flood-affected regions remains a top priority.
