Floodwater expected to reach Sindh on September 4, says PDMA

KARACHI: The floodwater is likely to enter Sindh on September 4-5, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

Very high-level flooding will pass through the Guddu and Sukkur barrages on the Indus River on September 4-5. The administration of all districts in the province has been ordered to remain on high alert.

Thundershowers are expected in Jacobabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, Khairpur, Kumbar Shahdad Kot, Sanghar, Umer Kot, Thatta, and Tharparkar.

According to the PDMA, it is in touch with the PTA, which will keep citizens informed by sending messages on mobile phones.

Announcements will be made in mosques, and continuous monitoring of the people will be maintained, and the population will be shifted to camps wherever deemed necessary.

5,800 people have been affected in Matiari. At present, 140 relief camps have been established in Sindh, one in Tando Muhammad Khan, 3 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 124 in Naushahro Feroze, and 12 in Khairpur.

32 medical camps have been established. Talking about Matiari, 16 camps have been established here, 4 in Ghotki and 12 in Khairpur.

9,921 people and 35,000 animals have been rescued from Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, and Naushahro Feroze in Sindh.

In terms of the distribution of relief items in the relief operation, 6,000 mosquito nets, 2,000 tarpaulins, 1,998 hygiene kits, 2,000 animal mosquito nets, 2,000 mats, 2,000 jerry cans, 200 portable bathrooms, 2,000 kitchen sets, and 2,000 tents have been delivered in Shikarpur.

In Larkana, 6,000 mosquito nets, 2,000 tarpaulins, 2,000 hygiene kits, 2,000 animal mosquito nets, 2,000 mats, 2,000 jerry cans, 100 portable bathrooms, 2,000 kitchen sets, 2,000 tents, and 2,400 talais have been delivered.

In Sukkur, 2,000 mosquito nets, 2,000 tarpaulins, 2,000 mats, 100 portable bathrooms, 2,000 tents, 2,000 kitchen sets, and 2,400 basins were also delivered.

In total, the PDMA has provided 79 water pumps, 8,000 tarpaulins, 15 boats, 825 adult and 5 child life jackets, 6,500 tents, 5,000 hygiene kits, 14,000 mosquito nets, and other items across the province.

In Sindh, 58 people have died and 78 people have been injured due to the monsoon from June 25, 2025, to September 1, 2025, including children and women.

From June 25, 2025, to September 1, 2025, 231 animals died due to monsoon rains across Sindh. The highest number of animals died in Tharparkar (207), Mirpurkhas (10), Tando Allahyar (13), and Sukkur (1).

91 properties were damaged in various places, and crops covering 350 acres were damaged in Hyderabad and Jacobabad.
