CCI cancels Indus River Canal project amid unanimous decision

ISLAMABAD: The Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the cancellation of the canal project from the Indus River.

According to the reports, the meeting was attended by all four Chief Ministers and other officials.

The government unanimously decided to officially cancel the canal project.

Sources said that a technical committee will now be formed to decide the future course of action regarding the construction of the canal.

It is worth mentioning that the Prime Minister had earlier met the PPP leadership regarding the canal project from the Indus River and announced to convene a CCI meeting on May 2.

However, on the request of the Sindh government, the Prime Minister convened the CCI meeting today instead of May 2.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced that the controversial canal projects would be brought before the Council of Common Interests (CCI), the meeting would be held on May 2.

While holding a joint press conference with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari after meeting the PPP delegation, the Prime Minister said that no canal would be built without mutual consent during the CCI meeting.
