ISLAMABAD: Former Naval Chief Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed Sirohey has passed away in Islamabad, as announced by the Pakistan Navy spokesperson on Thursday.
Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, offered his sympathies on the passing of Admiral Sirohey, who had a notable Pakistan Navy career.
Commissioned into the Pakistan Navy in 1955, Admiral Sirohey took part in the IndoPakistani wars of 1965 and 1971. From 1986 to 1988, he was Chief of the Pakistan Navy; after 1988 to 1991, he served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.
Notably, he was one of only two individuals, alongside Admiral Mohammad Shariff, to hold the position of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee from the Navy, as this role is often reserved for officials serving in the Pakistan Army.
Recognizing Admiral Sirohey’s outstanding contributions to the Pakistan Navy, the Naval Chief paid a tribute and noted his priceless help in the protection of the nation’s security and defense.
