ISLAMABAD: A claims by former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sheer Afzal Marwat have triggered unrest within the party, as he alleged that as much as Rs1 billion has been paid to lawyers to pursue PTI’s legal cases.

In a statement, Marwat said the funds were collected from various sources, including substantial contributions from overseas Pakistanis. However, he claimed he has no knowledge of how or where the money was ultimately spent.

The former PTI leader further alleged that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had paid Rs240 million to prominent lawyer Salman Akram Raja for handling party cases. He also claimed that hiring a lawyer involved paying commissions ranging from 20 to 25 percent.

Marwat added that after November 26, overseas Pakistanis contributed Rs380 million, which he said was managed by Aleema Khan and Khadija Shah. He alleged that he does not know where these funds went, and challenged anyone who believes he is lying to take the matter to court.

Commenting on internal party dynamics, Marwat claimed that Aleema Khan holds influence only temporarily, stating that when Bushra Bibi comes into the public eye, Aleema Khan would no longer be visible.

Following these statements, questions regarding PTI’s internal affairs and the utilization of party funds have once again come into the spotlight, fueling debate and controversy within the party.
