PESHAWAR: Police were targeted in multiple terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa late on Monday night, killing four policemen and injuring at least seven.
In Dir’s Panahkot area, unidentified gunmen ambushed a Quick Response Force mobile phone returning from a routine patrol at around 2 am, killing three policemen on the spot and injuring six others.
According to DPO Syed Bilal, the attackers opened fire from a hidden location. The bodies and injured were shifted to DHQ Hospital, while security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to find the attackers.
In the outskirts of Peshawar, terrorists attacked two police posts and a police station. CCPO Qasim said that the attacks targeted Matni Adizai check post, Nasir Bagh Sakhi Pul check post and Hassan Khel police station. Police repelled the attacks on Matni and Nasir Bagh check posts, however, one policeman was martyred and another was injured in the Hassan Khel attack.
In addition, an explosive device planted near the wall of the Landi Kotal DSP sub-office in Khyber district exploded, causing partial damage but no casualties. Another bomb exploded near a house in the Gonji Kalay area, causing partial damage to a guest room. Police said that both incidents occurred around 1 pm, and investigations are underway as the attackers fled the scene.
