Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza holds major defence talks in Maldives

RAWALPINDI: General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, NI, NI (M), Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) of Pakistan visited Maldives this week to strengthen defence and security cooperation between the two countries.

During his visit, General Mirza held meetings with President Dr. Muhammad Moeizo, Minister for Defence Mr. Muhammad Ghassan Mamun, and Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmi. The discussions focused on regional and global security challenges, areas of mutual interest and ways to enhance military-to-military cooperation.

The Maldivian leadership appreciated the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces and acknowledged their sacrifices in combating terrorism. On arrival at the MNDF headquarters, a well-dressed military contingent presented a guard of honour to the CJCSC.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations and explore new avenues for defence cooperation.
