In a recent development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Major General (R) Zafarullah Khan Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) as the Director General of the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority(CCRA).

The notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat Establishment Division confirmed Zafarullah’s appointment.

As Director General at CCRA, Major General (R) Zafarullah Khan will be instrumental in channeling the country’s cannabis policy to ensure the industry runs in a safe and responsible manner.

CCRA is the regulatory body set to oversee the cultivation, processing, and sale of cannabis products in Pakistan. The authority is responsible for the issuance of licenses, setting standards, and enforcement of regulations, to ensure that the industry is compliant with international conventions and national law.

This development is another milestone for Pakistan, whose cannabis industry has been gaining momentum over the last few years. The government had also set its sights on legalizing the cultivation of hemp and providing a framework for regulating cannabis products.
